| i was sitting with my band mates/friends a couple nights ago when i realized...
reading books is dumb
here's why: you spend a lot of time wrapping yourself up in this world (the story) investing emotions and mental space to the point where it almost becomes a physical thing. carrying the weight of the subject matter. and then, when you try to release some of it... to talk through it ... no one knows what you're talking about.
ok it's not that bad. reading books is purdy cool. and healthy. it stretches your brain. and it can be inspiring, both immediately and subconsciously.
this book by james frey was pretty darn good. i mean, it kept my attention. which says a lot (for most people i think that says a lot). i'd tell you how i feel about it, but it wouldn't make much sense unless you read it too. (see what i'm sayin'?)
turns out there's a lot of controversy surrounding the authenticity of this book. at some point i released that whether or not it's a complete accurate story of this dudes life makes no difference to me. it's just a good ol' story.
my next one to get through is On The Road, by Jack Kerouac. i got about half way, then i got bored. that's when i started A Million Little Pieces. and crap, i'm not gonna remember enough of what i read before.
anyone know any tricks on how to retain the stuff you read?
